Chamara Perera

Mr. Chamara Perera is an experienced professional in the airline industry with an extensive knowledge in Aviation Technology and business process automation delivering strategic leadership to Information Technology and Digital Transformation of the Airline and the Group.  

Chamara Perera entered the airline industry in 1999 counting two decades with the National Carrier.  He has served in a variety of management and senior management positions in the Airline and in 2012 he was appointed as the Head of Information Technology, thereafter in March 2021 he was made the Group Head of Information Technology with the IT arm of SriLankan Catering too coming under his purview. 

He overlooks the Aviation ICT and Digital Eco Systems of the Airline and the Group spanning from ground IT operations up to on-board connectivity enabling an array of IT Systems for Airline Business and Operations. Mr. Perera spearheaded many pioneering implementations of technology innovation to establish passenger centric services, some of which are the IATA Simplifying the Business (StB) program to fast travel innovative solutions in Air Transportation. He also steered the compliance of globally recognized IT standards ensuring a holistic Airline IT Governance platform. SriLankan IT is certified for ISO/IEC 27001:2013 Information Security Management, ISO 9001:2015 Software Quality Management and ISO/IEC 20000:2018 IT Service Management.  Mr. Perera has successfully guided the Technology Teams to transform and replace expensive legacy airline systems with low- cost Application Suites, in order to rationalize overall technology spend of the National Carrier. Furthermore, the in-house developed applications have won national and international accolades under his guidance and leadership. 

Mr. Perera holds a Master’s Degree in Business Administration specializing in IT Management from the University of Leicester, UK. He is an Engineer by profession holding a Bachelor of Science Degree in Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering from the University of Moratuwa, Sri Lanka. He holds professional qualifications and certifications in various IT specialization and international accredited bodies.
