The aviation industry’s commitment to Net Zero by 2050 is bold and absolutely necessary. But for airlines, it’s not just a target. It’s a journey that demands smarter operations, sharper decisions, and stronger resilience.
And with that journey come some tough hurdles.
From where we stand, we see three major challenges that airlines are facing today:
Challenge 1: Managing the rising cost of flying and flying greener
Fuel prices are unpredictable. Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) is still hard to get and can cost up to 8x more than regular jet fuel. Add in emissions trading schemes and offsetting programs, and the financial pressure keeps growing.
Challenge 2: Navigating a maze of new environmental regulations
From CORSIA to EU ETS and SAF mandates, the regulatory landscape is growing fast, and it’s not always aligned across regions. Compliance is complex, and the cost of getting it wrong is high.
Challenge 3: Cutting emissions from flying
Aircraft emissions are the biggest contributor to aviation’s carbon footprint and the hardest to reduce. SAF isn’t yet widely available, and new aircraft technologies won’t scale for many decades.
