PassengerHandler
Agents can carry out complete range of check-in and boarding transactions and some controller functions after 1-2 days’ training
PassengerHandler is a two-way translating common language facility (CLF), enabling agents to check in and board passengers on multiple departure control systems (DCS) using a single graphical user interface (GUI) on common-use workstations.
Overview
Ground handlers processing passengers on multiple DCSs are confronted with the cost of supporting multiple training programmes and complicated staff rostering, since no single agent is usually fluent in more than two or three hosts. Training new staff and refreshing veteran staff on multiple DCSs is an added cost to normal operations. And staff-rostering based on allocation of multiple native host or front-end experience is an additional burden and constraint on staff management.
By reducing or eliminating this complexity and cost, a handler increases operational efficiency and improves its bottom line.
PassengerHandler’s intuitive workflow increases productivity by empowering inexperienced agents to use a broader range of DCS functions without requiring more expert assistance.
The short time needed to train new agents for PassengerHandler fluency also facilitates rapid introduction of new and effective handling agents.
Benefits
Benefits of PassengerHandler include:
- Substantially reduced training costs
- Reduced staff costs
- Reduced communications costs
- Enhanced staff productivity
- Fewer staff rostering issues
- Rapid cut-over for new airlines
- Fully integrated with CUTE
Shorter staff training time
A training course for PassengerHandler typically takes 1.5 days. After this course, an agent can check in several different carriers. Contrast this with the length of time to train an agent to use and remember DCS native mode entries.
Substantially reduced training costs
The shorter training time required for staff and the fact that once trained on PassengerHandler, staff can check in any airline greatly reduces training costs.
Reduced staff costs
Not only is PassengerHandler simple to use, but since PassengerHandler uses a familiar GUI interface, new staff do not need the same background in passenger handling as in the past. Temporary workers and peak-time fill-in staff can be used, flexibly, alongside experienced staff.
Reduced communications costs
All entries to the DCS systems are produced by PassengerHandler and are therefore error free. Statistics indicate that up to 10 percent (or more) of native mode entries are in error, requiring a correction and re-transmission. Reducing the number of transactions and the number of errors reduces communications costs.
Enhanced staff productivity
PassengerHandler allows staff to check-in passengers on different airline DCS systems – without having to be familiar with the “character-mode” entries for each of these systems. All the staff benefit from being able to use the comprehensive features and wide coverage of PassengerHandler to perform their jobs more effectively.
Fewer staff rostering issues
Since staff can be scheduled for check-in on different carriers, rostering issues that occur when only limited pools of staff trained on individual carriers do not arise. PassengerHandler provides great flexibility to the staff management.
Rapid cut-over for new airlines
PassengerHandler has an ever-growing library of airline DCS scripts. This means that if you wish to handle a new airline, it is most likely just a question of having the new PassengerHandler script installed.
Fully integrated with CUTE
PassengerHandler is fully compatible and integrated with the SITA CUTE platform which it can be used anywhere a CUTE workstation is located, be that at check-in desks, boarding gates or downtown check-in locations.
