SITA AIRCOM ACARS service provides air-ground communications through a worldwide VHF AIRCOM Network and via satellite links to aircraft equipped with ACARS.
VHF AIRCOM Network
Delivered over a network of more than 1,100 VHF data link radio stations installed in more than 160 countries. All aircraft data link computers are linked to VHF radios compatible with VHF AIRCOM.
VHF Digital Link (VDL) Mode 2
To ensure that airlines and air traffic service providers can rely on SITA's AIRCOM service meeting their evolving needs, SITA is upgrading the AIRCOM VHF network to comply with the new International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) standard specifying the VHF Digital Link (VDL) Mode 2.
AIRCOM Satellite Services
SITA provides AIRCOM service via four geostationary satellites of Inmarsat which provide coverage around the world between 80° north/south, and via 66 Iridium low earth orbit satellites.
AIRCOM IP
Access will be via airport wireless links to provide coverage of aircraft on the ground and via broadband satellite links providing coverage for aircraft in-flight. AIRCOM Air-Ground IP service will be used first by Boeing’s EFB being installed in B777’s and the AIRBUS A380 Electronic Flight Folder.
