Automated Passport Control Kiosk | SITA

Overview

SITA’s Automated Passport Control Kiosk is designed to speed up processing at the US immigration primary line and thus alleviate capacity issues. It does this by automating border control to achieve the optimal balance between rapid processing of travelers and securing the border.

SITA’s self-service kiosk can be used by travelers from the US, Canada and visa-waiver countries. It replaces the traditional process of filling out the US Customs declaration form by hand onboard the aircraft.

How it works

The Automated Passport Control Kiosk enables travelers from the US, Canada and visa-waiver countries to complete their customs declaration form on touch-screens – as well as have their passports read, and their fingerprints and facial images captured.

The kiosk uses a three-step process to speed up processing at the US Immigration Primary Line:

  1. Answer a set of regulatory questions at the touch-screen
  2. Passport reading and validation
  3. Identity verification

At the end of the self-service process, the kiosk issues a receipt to be presented to a Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officer for final clearance through a fast-track, dedicated lane.
