Stockholm, here we come!

Only a few days to go before more than 7,000 airport executives from all over the world will gather for the biggest airport conference and exhibition of the year: PTE 2018.

This year’s event, in Stockholm the beautiful capital of Sweden and hosted by long term SITA Member Swedavia Airports, promises to break all records of previous years’, visitor and exhibitor numbers. It’s amazing how year on year this event has evolved, capturing the attention of the industry and drawing some incredible speakers – at time its feels like there is almost too much to see and absorb, and too many people to meet in just three days.

As the co-chair of the Management and Operations track I will again be spending most of my time in the conference area. We have a great line up this year with a very broad and diverse range of interesting speakers in the areas of Terminal Operations, A-CDM in its various flavors from all corners of the world, Total Airport Management, Monitoring & Prediction of Passenger Flows, Turnaround Management, Security and Border filters and Landside planning.

We will close this track on Thursday morning with a focus on Crises & Disaster Management. My colleague Fraser McGibbon in his session, AI for Disruption Management, will present key findings from a recent SITA Lab research and discovery project on the viability of machine-learning AI to accurately predict arrival times, up to 24 hours before arrival.

Another colleague, Viktor Kuzy, our Baggage expert will be speaking with S7 Airlines, IATA 753 & Baggage Tracking as a Passenger Service– sharing some key learnings.

Catherine Mayer, VP SITA, will be chairing the Customer Service and Passenger Experience conference, and in parallel will lead a unique panel of Airport CIOs who will discuss progress being made on the much talked about Digital Transformation at Airports – a hot topic that is bound to generate much discussion. And finally, in a session chaired by Catherine, on Thursday, Jerry Zeephat from SITA will speak with Miami International Airport on the Digital Passenger, what’s Next?

When I am not in the conference area, you will find me on the SITA stand. Luckily, it’s just a stone’s throw away from the conference rooms so it means I am truly in the middle of the action.

This year we have some really interesting solutions to share with you. Increasing digitalization, biometrics, artificial intelligence (AI) and mixed reality are shaping a new travel experience. These emerging IT trends in the industry are major focus areas for SITA at PTE.

Visitors to the SITA stand will be able to trial some of these groundbreaking technologies such as our Smart Path Mobile that will allow visitors to our stand to create their biometric credential on a mobile phone.

And my personal preference, is the demo we have that allows visitors to the SITA booth to immerse themselves in the world of holographic computing and experience the future of airport operations management. Using HoloLens, and a data feed from SITA’s Day of Operations BI technology, we created a new way to visualize and interact with the airport’s operational data -  including aircraft movement, passenger movement and retail analytics. Don’t miss it, it’s really kinda cool.

We will also be showcasing our new predictive disruption management solution, FlightPredictor, harnessing advanced machine learning and AI it can predict airline arrival time at defined intervals before arrival - improving situational awareness across the ecosystem, recovery planning and overall operational execution.

These are just a few of examples of some of the technology solutions from our range of solutions for operations at the airport that will be displayed and demoed live by our experienced experts from our Airport Operations, Passenger Processing and Baggage Management teams.

If you are planning to attend PTE 2018, come along and join us on Stand 500, where our team will host, share and discuss with you the latest SITA innovations that are helping airports and airlines globally transform their operations in a really meaningful way.
