Rico Barandun

Rico Barandun is an expert aviation professional with over 15 years of aviation experience. He is currently the Head of Solution Specialists for SITA’s Passenger and Baggage Processing Products, including Self-Service Kiosks, BagDrop, Self-Boarding Gates and any new Innovations in this area. He joined SITA in 2010 to start up and develop the SITA Self-Service Portfolio.

Rico has managed various projects mainly in the area of airport self-service and has been actively engaged in various industry body initiatives like Simplifying Passenger Travel (SPG IG), the working groups like the IATA Passenger Experience Management Group (PEMG) and FastTravel.

Before joining SITA, Rico worked for Swissport, leading the e-Services Team looking at Process Consultancy to increase Swissport's passenger processing efficiency and covering different processes like Security and Check-In into one. He started his career as an airline transport pilot for Swissair where he was a First Officer on Airbus 320 family planes until end of 2001.

In 2014 Rico has successfully completed the ACI Airport Professional Management Accreditation Programme (AMPAP) and in 2016 the ACI Airport Executive Leadership Programme (AELP).

He is based in SITA's Zurich Airport office.

The kiosk: 20 years and counting

As we approach the end of SITA kiosk's 20th anniversary year, it’s exciting to think about what lies ahead as kiosks continue their rise in smoothing the flow of passengers, both on and off airport.

Far from retreating into the background, we’ve seen kiosks emerge out of the check-in domain and into the forefront of other airport activities.
