Steven Miller is SMU’s Vice Provost (Research) and he oversees SMU’s Office of Research & Tech Transfer, Office of Post-Graduate Research Programmes, Human Research Protection Programme and Institutional Review Board, and SMU’s Institutes, Centres and Labs.
He was the Founding Dean of the SMU School of Information Systems (SIS), a position he held from 2002 through mid-2016. He started his professional career as a faculty member at Carnegie Mellon University, appointed in both the College of Engineering and the Business School.
Prior to joining SMU, he held senior positions in technology, management and consulting with Fujitsu Ltd in both Japan and the US; RWD Technologies in the US; and IBM Global Services where he was Chief Architect Executive for Business Innovation Services, Asia Pacific.
He is currently an appointed member of Singapore’s Data Protection Advisory Committee (“DPAC”). He also serves on various advisory panels and committees under Singapore’s National Research Foundation, Ministry of Communication and Information, Ministry of Home Affairs, and Ministry of National Development – providing inputs on analytics and AI, Infocomm R&D, Infocomm Manpower Development, and University-Industry collaborations.
