Process passengers more efficiently with common-use technology

Overview

AirportConnect Open enables airports, airlines and their handling agents to access their IT applications in real-time on dedicated or shared common-use equipment.

It allows any airline to use any agent desk, gate position or self-service kiosk for passenger check-in and bag drop, and enables airlines to reconcile passengers boarded. It allows airlines to share the same credit card payment terminal (PIN entry device - PED) for accepting chip, magnetic and contactless cards at these touch points, while continuing to use their preferred payment service providers and banks.

Only AirportConnect Open can provide:

  • An integrated approach to common-use terminal equipment (CUTE), common-use passenger processing systems (CUPPS) and common-use self-service (CUSS) kiosks, hosted on one platform.
  • Airlines access to the largest installed base of common use systems at airports.
  • Multi-merchant credit card payments in a common-use environment that combines point-to-point encryption (P2PE) technology, with Europay, Mastercard, Visa (EMV) and Payment Card Industry (PCI) compliant chip card payment terminals, applications and processes, to allow multiple merchants to use the same terminal while meeting PCI security standards.

How it helps

SITA’s AirportConnect Open provides the standard communications between all the peripherals required for passenger processing. These include printers, passport readers, boarding card readers and bag tag printers and supports self-boarding gates and self-bag drop.

It is the first payment solution designed to minimize fraud risks by implementing encryption with EMV compliant card readers. It provides a secure solution aligned with credit card brand approvals, addressing the need for airlines to be able to accept payments securely at airports.

Airlines

AirportConnect Open allows airlines to deliver a consistent level of customer service by providing standard applications and service management, regardless of airport location. It is the only common-use product listed on the VISA Registry of Service Providers, confirming the platform has been assessed as compliant to Payment Card Industry (PCI) standards. The common-use payment service meets Europay MasterCard VISA (EMV) standards.

As the industry’s first point-to-point encryption (P2PE) solution, it enables payment transactions at common-use check-in desks (and kiosks and bag drop areas over the coming months) for baggage fees, upgrades and other ancillary charges. This broadens airlines’ retail opportunities while providing confidence in the enhanced security of the payment process and an improved passenger experience with their ability to make a payment at time of check-in.
