Bandwidth, please proceed to Gate 4!

We're seeing a digital revolution onboard the aircraft with electronic flight bags, cabin crew tablets and in-flight entertainment options. All of these systems are underpinned by bandwidth, so it's no surprise it's in strong demand - and getting stronger. This means new levels of aircraft connectivity on the ground like we've never seen before.

Connectivity at the airport

As airlines introduce the B787 and A350, carriers are using Wi-Fi or LTE to cope with increasing volumes of digital communications with their planes at the airport. Initially, this was seen at hub airports but we're seeing more and more secondary airports used to target specific outstations.

Multiple airports bring multiple challenges, including contracts, support models and service level agreements. Managing these challenges is not the core business for airlines. This is where SITA and other global IT suppliers come in.

AirportHub™, SITA's shared airport communications infrastructure, meets the needs of airlines and other airport tenants for 'always on' communications - in the most cost-effective way. After years of commitment and a multimillion dollar investment, AirportHub™ has become a building block in enabling a real-time intelligent environment at the world's airports. Best of all, it comes at no additional cost to airport authorities.
