ServiceNet

Maximizes the value of IP investment

The ServiceNet portfolio provides access to industry-specific applications through a SITA IP connection, using a cost-efficient network architecture that delivers high levels of reliability, resiliency and security.

Overview

ServiceNets are a range of individual products that allow organizations to leverage their existing investments in IP VPN and/or ATeX services to gain access to air transport industry (ATI) applications hosted by SITA and third-party organizations.

This fully managed service is part of the IP and High Speed portfolio. Services available include a wide range of SITA applications and third-party applications.

Benefits

ServiceNet provides the following key benefits:

  • Is cost-effective
  • Maximizes the value of IP investment

Features

ServiceNet provides the following features:

  • Unmatched geographical coverage
  • Scaleable and flexible
  • Short lead-times to connect
  • High levels of reliability, resiliency and security

More about ServiceNet

A ServiceNet is an overlay on the IP VPN network, that:

  • Permits the interconnection of clients and suppliers across the SITA network
  • Uses clients' existing SITA network infrastructure
  • Eliminates the need for dedicated access lines between customers and suppliers/partners
  • Does not touch the Internet

Instead of investing in addition equipment to access individual application provider networks, for a fixed monthly fee, customers can "subscribe" their existing routers to individual ServiceNets. Doing so creates an IP connection between the customer and the application provider networks. No additional equipment is required, and one router can subscribe to any number of ServiceNets.

British Airports Authority (BAA)

BAA_ICISS2net provides access to BAA Internet Check-in Scanning System (ICISS2) in London, UK. The system has been rolled out to most BAA operated airports and is now used to scan the barcodes of an increasing number of airlines.

Boarding cards, which are printed by on-line check-in passengers at home, include a two-dimensional barcode containing flight and passenger information. When presented by the passenger and scanned by airport staff, the system performs validation checks including:

  • Is the passenger at the correct airport and on the correct day?
  • Is the flight domestic or international?
  • Has this boarding card been encountered before and, if so, is it a duplicate?

On successful validation, the passenger is allowed to proceed to security controls. Nnon-validation triggers operational procedures to address the failure.
