Mobile Data Access
SITA becomes the first global mobile data services provider for the air transport industry
SITA Mobile Data Access, the one-stop shop for connectivity and applications, is a new mobile data connectivity service developed specifically for the needs of the global air transport industry (ATI).
The ATI is rapidly adopting mobile working solutions, from electronic flight bags to mobile passenger processing. However, airlines and airports typically have to source connectivity from multiple domestic mobile network operators, which can lead to complex vendor management issues and very expensive mobile data roaming.
With Mobile Data Access, customers benefit from a global rate plan for mobile data and single point of contact for all mobile data applications.

Overview
Like many industries, the ATI is embracing mobile data applications.
For example, multi-domestic mobile data requirements are central to the development of workforce automation, including:
- Electronic flight bags
- Mobile passenger processing
- Wireless baggage reconciliation
- On-board PoS
- Back-up 3G routers
- M2M asset monitoring
- In-flight cabin services
- M2M maintenance applications
The challenge that user organizations can face is consistent 3G connectivity. One network provider may provide fast data rates and domestic pricing in one market, but when the device or user roams, the data plan switches to expensive international data roaming and the data speed drops off.
Furthermore, using a domestic mobile network operator does not provide a back-up network if there are connectivity issues (patchy coverage, network outage). In short, mobile data services provided by domestic operators are not geared to the needs of the ATI.
Alternatively, some organizations have chosen international M2M services which can provide a flat rate roaming price structure. However, these services are typically limited to low-bandwidth and low-usage applications, yet many mobile data applications require a faster connection. Additionally, many M2M services contracts requires a minimum of 500 SIMs.
Mobile Data Access provides the best of both worlds. Customers benefit from fast data rates, a simple, transparent roaming pricing structure, and unified view of their entire mobile data activities, and no minimum order.
