4.3 million passengers to benefit from latest SITA CUTE systems at Doha International Airport
SITA, the leading provider of information and telecommunication solutions to the aviation industry, announced today that it has won a three-year contract with Qatar Aviation Services – a subsidiary of Qatar Airways - to provide check-in systems at Doha International Airport which handled 4.3 million passengers last year.
The 31 airlines using Doha International Airport will be able to connect to their host via the SITA AirportConnect CUTE (Common Use Terminal Equipment) platform which will be fully implemented by September. A total of 200 CUTE work stations will be in operation throughout the airport.
Akbar Al Baker, CEO of Qatar Airways, said, “The overall objective is to create a common use platform which allows IT infrastructure to be used by multiple customers and partners. SITA’s AirportConnect Cute will allow all airlines using Doha International Airport to connect to their host via the CUTE system which will become fully operational over the next few months.”
“We wanted to have a proven, state-of-the-art system in place to ensure that Doha International Airport has an advanced, integrated communication infrastructure that offers high levels of support for the airlines using its facilities.”
AirportConnect CUTE is a common software, hardware and network solution for airports which enables airlines and handling agents to access their own systems from workstations and printers shared by all users. This new evolution of CUTE uses Microsoft's operating system, Windows XP. Airport Connect CUTE also supports passenger processing applications such as departure control and boarding systems - as well as airport operations systems including flight information displays and resource management.
Hani El Assaad, SITA Regional Vice-President, Middle East and Turkey, said, "We are delighted to support Doha International Airport with advanced IT solutions which are cost-effective and scalable. With AirportConnect CUTE in place, Doha International Airport and its airline partners will experience greater operational flexibility and a reduction in costs.”
SITA currently manages some 30,000 CUTE workstations for 285 customers in more than 200 airport locations worldwide, checking-in an estimated 580 million passengers a year.
