Airport IT Trends Survey 2009
The Airport IT Trends Survey 2009 highlights are now available
Now in its sixth year, The Airport IT Trends Survey - produced in partnership by Airline Business, Airports Council International and SITA - provides the clearest and most authoritative insight into how airports are prioritizing their IT spend.
The 2009 Survey shows airports continuing to embrace technologies that improve their operational efficiency, responding to cost pressures by investing in applications to improve productivity and investing in IT infrastructure consolidation.
The vast majority of airports plan to use self-service as the primary means for passenger processing in the check-in area, with the adoption of check-in kiosks now reaching airports of any size or location. Self-service is also further evolving, with the airports short-term priority set on adding functionality to existing kiosks such as self-scanning of passports or bag tag printing, and their long-term ambition to explore new avenues of self-service such as automated boarding gates. And, like their airline counterparts, airport IT departments are gearing up to take advantage of mobile technologies, both in terms of services to passengers' mobile phones and introducing wireless handheld devices to support staff.
