Back to Air Transport IT Review - Air Traffic Management
X.25 to IP migration
As most customers know, SITA has a strategic alliance with Orange Business Services (OBS) that enables it to offer innovative, flexible and cost-effective communication solutions to the air transport industry through a long-term agreement covering a broad portfolio of network services.
Since OBS plans to shortly discontinue support of the X.25 network protocol, it will be necessary to migrate all Air Navigation Service Provider (ANSP) X.25 connections to IP. The communication protocol to be implemented above the new IP connections (and supported by ANSPs client applications) is known as MATIP (Mapping of Airline Reservation, Ticketing, and Messaging Traffic over IP, as defined in Internet RFC 2351).
SITA is therefore encouraging all ANSPs with remaining X.25 connections to get in touch with their application and system suppliers to plan for the migration of their ATM
systems to support the MATIP interface.
