FANS system completed in Brazil

Airlines using the South Atlantic airspace under Brazilian Air Traffic Control are already benefiting from the introduction of real time airspace surveillance and data link
communications between pilots and air traffic controllers, enabled by SITA's AIRCOM satellite data link technology.

In October 2008, Brazil's Department of Air Space Control (DECEA) activated operational ADS service in the Europe-South America corridor using a SITA ADS CPDLC
workstation system based on proven software, a robust platform and a dual architecture configuration.

DECEA is responsible for providing air traffic services in the Atlantico Flight Information Region (FIR), an area spanning more than 13 million square kilometres. Air traffic services in this region are delivered by the Atlantico Area Control Center (ACC) operated by the Third Integrated Center for Air Defense and Air Traffic Control (CINDACTA III), one of the four main ATC centres administrated by DECEA.

SITA FANS system delivers benefits for DGAC Chile

Since August 2006, Chile has been offering ADS CPDLC services in oceanic airspace under its responsibility using a SITA FANS system. Now, the country's Dirección
General de Aeronáutica Civil (DGAC) is preparing to take another step towards data link development and operational consolidation, and has requested SITA support for
technological certification for its new ATM system.

SITA was awarded the FANS services contract in December 2005, and after system commissioning and a flight testing phase, worked with DGAC to assess the use of data link technology and build the necessary experience and familiarity among operational and technical staff.

In June 2007, IATA recognized DGAC's outstanding achievements through an Eagle Award that recognizes outstanding performance in customer satisfaction, cost efficiency and continuous improvement.

Sponsorship of ICAO's Caribbean, Central and South American Regional air navigation meeting

In October 2008, SITA sponsored the 15th Meeting of the ICAO CAR/SAM Regional Planning and Implementation Group (GREPECAS) in Rio de Janeiro: the most important
aeronautical authority meeting in the region. SITA had a booth and a demo in the event exhibition area, where participants were able to see the South Atlantic ADS Operation
system in use by CINDACTA III (DECEA).

A very pleasant dinner sponsored by SITA took place at the Rio Scenarium restaurant hosted by Olivier Layly, SITA Regional VP for Latin America and the Caribbean.

Update of D-ATIS implementation in Brazil

In May 2008 SITA worked in partnership with Brazil's CISCEA to improve D-ATIS system implementation in the control tower of Rio de Janeiro-Galeão International Airport. The D-ATIS system was updated with a new database and integrated with state-of-art platforms supplied by ACAMS to the ATC tower.

The Rio control tower's D-ATIS system was originally implemented in November 2004 as the first data link airport application dedicated to ATC service deployed by the Brazilian Aeronautical Authority.

In addition to making system improvements, SITA refreshed Brazilian ATC staff operational skills as well as providing the technical personnel responsible for administration and maintenance with tailored training and certification processes.
