Prague introduces world’s most environmentally friendly check-in kiosk to Eastern Europe
The largest installation of self-service check-in kiosks in Eastern Europe went live today at Prague Airport where 12.6 million passengers flying on 42 airlines are now able to use SITA’s compact new S3 kiosk for the first time in the region.
The 25 AirportConnect S3 Kiosks weigh just 70 kg each and boast the smallest carbon footprint in the industry and a printer that can issue up to 4,000 boarding passes from a single roll. Two S3 kiosks take up the same space as one conventional CUSS (Common Use Self Service) kiosk.
Self-service check-in grew 20% last year worldwide and the S3 kiosk is expected to give it a significant boost at Prague.
Miroslav Dvorak, Prague Airport CEO and President of Czech Airlines, said: “The introduction of this new check-in service, using SITA’s AirportConnect S3 Kiosk, follows on logically from earlier improvements in passenger handling. The most compact, freestanding self-service check-in kiosk available will further enhance our airport’s reputation for being technologically advanced and passenger friendly.”
He added: “I am also glad that Czech Airlines has started using the service thus becoming the largest user of the new self check-in kiosks at Prague Airport. The S3 kiosk is also fitted with passport and document scanners to speed up collection of Advance Passenger Information and Electronic Travel Authorization Service data for visa validation where applicable.”
Ilya Gutlin, SITA Regional Vice President, said: “”The AirportConnect S3 kiosk is the future for CUSS kiosks and allows progressive operators like Prague Airport to maximize use of space and to cater efficiently to the traveling public’s desire for passenger self-service and greater control over their journey.”
