Next generation communications infrastructure

With increasing communications needs across the air transport industry (ATI), SITA is actively working to find affordable solutions that:

  • Lower the cost of technology adoption and refresh
  • Support as many applications as possible to maximize return on investment
  • Take advantage of local and existing infrastructure to share costs and benefits

Our vision is to develop a multi-service common-use architecture at airports to act as the foundation for innovation for all members of the ATI.

This foundation will leverage the existing concentration of air transport operations, employees and travellers, and will work as a natural platform to support peering and aggregation.

To achieve this, SITA already delivers Hybrid Networking and Application Fluent Solutions, and we are now looking at moving the focus away from the network itself and concentrating instead on application performance and the end-user experience.

This means moving from a model where applications are delivered only from central servers to a model where applications are also delivered from hubs at the ‘edge’ of the network to optimize performance and improve customer satisfaction.

With an initial focus on building the core infrastructure, we will leverage our highly successful Airport Hubs and then integrate XML-routing, reporting, identity management, collaboration, and wireless and mobility services.
