Back to Air Transport IT Review - Issue 1, April 2009

In this issue ... IT for change and challenges

The continously revised IATA outlook for the global aviation industry (see opposite), reflects serious persistent deterioration in air traffic demand. It comes as estimates for many countries around the world show economies contracting.

For the air transport industry, the downturn means that more than ever IT and communication projects must deliver cost savings with a clear and quick return on investment. It also means working collaboratively as an industry to find solutions that reduce operational costs and/or the total cost of ownership (TCO).

SITA works closely with customers with these goals in mind, and you will see a number of examples in this issue - including our articles on customer news, next generation communications, CUPPs and more.

What is clear - for both the short and long term - is that IT must help bring about change. It often requires out-of-the-box thinking to address some of the big challenges our industry faces. That's why we cover technological trends in a number of areas critical to the industry today, such as the environment, border management, mobility and new generation aircraft. It is also why our Air Transport it Summit this year is themed "IT - A force for change"
