iBorders AdvancedManagement Visa

Using technology to increase efficiency, reduce costs and boost tourism and trade

Issuing visas through local consulates or embassies is resource-consuming and lacks cost-effectiveness. Visas need to be entered into passports and the details logged for government use, while limited IT and personnel capacity create a backlog in processing applications. For the traveller, having to surrender a passport is inconvenient, especially for the frequent traveller.

These issues can be overcome by an automated, self-service application system. SITA iBorders AdvancedManagement Visa is an electronic visa application and issuing service which manages visa applications at the point of sale or reservation:

  • The traveller provides his or her personal, travel and payment details as part of his or her visa application, via online interface, travel agent, etc.
  • The iBorders AdvancedManagement Visa service sends the identity document and payment data directly to the issuing government for approval and issuance of an eVisa
  • Passengers with eVisas are pre-cleared through Immigration and Security upon arrival

SITA iBorders AdvancedManagement Visa provides the following benefits:

  • Improved data quality with lowered processing cost
  • Enhanced security- an eVisa cannot be lost or stolen
  • Reduced paperwork, allowing resources to focus on other tasks
  • Reduced barriers to tourism and trade

SITA iBorders AdvancedManagement Visa delivers a paperless substitute for all types of visa.

iBorders AdvancedManagement Visa works thus:

  • Document and payment data is sent directly to the issuing government for approval
  • The government-issued approval response is passed back to the travel agent or airline - or directly to the applicant for online applications - by SITA, generally within two to three seconds
  • If an eVisa is denied, the passenger is required to go to a consulate
  • If an eVisa is issued, the visa is reconfirmed at check-in

An eVisa can easily be obtained at any airline terminal, at the point of sale or reservation such as a travel agent or airline, or online via a government web site.

When the passenger arrives at check-in, the airline verifies his or her eVisa using airline-standard command codes directly from the check-in terminal, and then issues a boarding pass accordingly.

If a valid eVisa is required but not present, the airline can apply for one on the passenger's behalf, at the airport, at check-in time.

SITA iBorders AdvancedManagement Visa can be implemented:

  • As a stand-alone service
  • As part of SITA iBorders AdvancedManagement, which includes a range of features from simple data acquirement from airlines systems up to sophisticated tools that provide intelligent risk assessment in advance of a passenger's arrival or departure.
