Baggage angle
The right bag with the right passenger on the right aircraft
"[SITA] came up with a bold, innovative package, delivered with total honesty and openness, and we've enjoyed a very strong line-management and contractual engagement with SITA all along. SITA has gone the extra mile to meet our needs."
Ian Envis, Executive Secretary
Gatwick Airline Operations Committee (AOC)
Tight turnaround times, passenger volumes and tougher security make baggage handling more of a priority than ever before. It's also an economic imperative, as mishandled baggage cost the ATI over US$ 2.96 billion last year.
SITA's integrated baggage-management system uses state-of-the-art technologies and IP-based global links to ensure baggage safely reaches its destination every time, with the minimum of fuss. It is already helping London Gatwick and over 70 other global airports reduce their volumes of mishandled baggage and the associated costs.
Our integrated system comprises:
- BagManager
Tracks the movement of baggage from check-in to flight departure and provides real-time information on baggage status. This reduces costs and improves staff-effectiveness. - BagMessage
A global shared-message distribution system for airports, airlines and service providers that connects automated baggage systems worldwide. By reducing the number of misdirected bags, it helps deliver cost savings and improved customer service. - WorldTracer
The world's leading automated service for tracing lost or mishandled baggage, used by 440 airlines and ground-handing companies worldwide. Airlines and airports can share data ensuring bags and owners are reconciled quickly and cost-effectively.
Combined, the three systems can provide you with a seamless and global baggage-management suite that delivers optimal efficiency as well as time and money savings.
Expedite passenger processing with self-service baggage solutions
Despite the popularity of self-service solutions with passengers, airports and airlines alike, the full efficiency of self-service will never be realized until passengers can check in their bags themselves.
PassengerBagdrop represents a considerable advance. Recently deployed by Swissport at Zurich Airport, PassengerBagdrop enables a single bag-drop counter to be used to service passengers from several airlines in the same queue. With the average passenger taking no more than 30 seconds to drop off their bags, we have now overcome a major bottleneck in the passenger management process.
PassengerBagdrop will soon be complemented by PassengerBagdrop Off-Airport which will enable passengers to check-in at an off-airport location such as their hotel, and also check-in their bags.
