SITA and International Air Transport Association (IATA)
The International Air Transport Association (IATA) is an international trade body created 60 years ago by a handful of airlines. Today, it has 230 member airlines, representing 93 percent of scheduled international air traffic. Its main roles are industry advocacy and standard setting.
IATA's executive offices are in Geneva. The organisation is a member of SITA.
IATA’s current priorities include:
- Safety
- Environment
- Simplifying the Business
- Cost saving
SITA plays a role in each of these areas.
SITA activities with IATA
Non-airline organisations can participate in IATA committees and working groups by joining its Strategic Partnership Programme.
SITA is one of IATA's largest strategic partners. We contribute our industry know-how and experience in the following nine service areas:
- e-Freight initiative
- Engineering and maintenance
- Facilitation
- Flight Operations
- Interline Tariffs
- Passenger & Airport Services
- Regional Infrastructure
- Security
- Simplifying the Business
- World Air Transport Summit / AGM
Through our joint-venture, Champ Cargosystems, SITA participates in the Cargo Services Strategic Partnership Programme.
SITA and IATA also collaborate on many other common interests, including organising and sponsoring industry events. We also help IATA identify areas where technology can benefit the air transport industry.
