Air Transport IT Summit agenda

Air Transport IT Summit 2010 - The Next Digital Decade

As we look ahead to the next decade what role will IT and communications play to ensure a profitable and successful air transport industry? From cloud computing and software-as-a-service,  to mobility, social media and biometrics, what are the top strategies and technologies that will enable sustainable industry growth through the next ‘digital decade’? And as we plan for the upturn, how can airlines, airports and other industry stakeholders build their IT strategies to chart the course ahead?

Welcome and Introduction

Speaker: Paul Coby (Chair of the Board, SITA / CIO & Head of BA Services)

New decade, new e-conomics

Speakers: Pierre-Henri Gourgeon (Air France KLM) & Tony Tyler (Cathay Pacific Airways)

Objective: Platform for keynote speakers to address the new economics of the industry for the next decade. How do we prepare? How will IT help to support and facilitate the changes the industry must make in order to be successful?

Themes: As we plan for the future, how will we achieve better cost efficiencies, faster and improved ROI, and the generation of new sources of revenues? Be it e-commerce or e-enablement, what potential will IT bring in helping us to address the new
‘e-conomics’ of the industry? And how might IT help to bring about greater efficiency and integration between airlines and airports?

New decade, new e-fficiencies

Speakers: Paul Coby (Chair of the Board, SITA / CIO & Head of BA Services), Jay Fredericks (Delta Air Lines), Adnan Metin (Turkish Airlines), Paul Griffiths (Dubai Airports) , Mohd Aminuddin Yaakub (Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad), Mark Pilling (Airline Business)

Objective: Platform for speakers to address the ability of IT to enable new and better ways of working, covering operational efficiency and community approaches for airlines, airports and other stakeholders.

Description and themes: The pace of technological change has accelerated over the last decade, delivering new ways of working and ever greater operational efficiencies within the airline and airport environment.

As we face the new decade, expectations for IT are even higher. So how will our strategies ensure we effectively embrace new technologies in areas like security and the environment, and in order to streamline our airline, aircraft and airport operations? As a community, how do we best adopt new generation IT to proactively bring about new ways of working in operational areas?

The digital traveller - en route to 2020

Speakers: Henry Harteveldt (Forrester), Kevin Cai (China Eastern Airlines), Aleks Popovich (IATA), Michael Ibbitson (Abu Dhabi Airports Company), Dominic Nessi (Los Angeles World Airports)

Objective: Platform for speakers to address the passenger journey and experience, and the digital touch-points that build customer perception, loyalty and competitiveness.

Description and themes: We’re already in a 24x7 passenger-connected world. But what plans can airlines and airports make now to further enhance the journey for digital travellers in the next 10 years? When we look to 2020, what technologies do we expect to radically transform passenger journeys, experiences and processing, while creating loyalty and competitor differentiation?

The digital aircraft

Speakers: Jacques Dopagne (EUROCONTROL), Frederic Saugnac (Airbus), Federico Genoese-Zerbi (The Boeing Company)

Objective: Platform for speakers to address the IT and communications implications of next generation aircraft and their potential impact on the industry’s operations.

Description and themes: The new generation of aircraft now entering service promise a world of opportunities - such as new customer services, high operational performance, greater cost and fuel efficiency and improved environmental profiles. But with their arrival, aircraft operations are becoming more and more IT demanding. These new ‘flying data centres' are sophisticated platforms leveraging the latest IT and communications technologies, and early experience shows that these aircraft currently generate a ten-fold increase in air-ground data traffic when compared to conventional long-haul wide-bodies. How can we best harness this data? And what are the IT and communications implications for airlines, airports, airframers and other stakeholders?
